Dragon Engines are incredibly rare items found in the Wastes. According to legend, they are fashioned from the hearts of Dragons, and are powered by the blood of living creatures!

Episode 2 - the party first encounters a Dragon Engine in the Dusthill Caverns. This incredibly small example of a Dragon Engine powers the well that provides water to the town of Dusthill.
Episode 5 - Peter, the first Hillmaster, explains that Dragon Engines are powered by blood; specifically the blood of living beings with a soul. The more powerful the soul, the more effective the blood is at powering the Dragon Engine. He also explains that the blood from an average human corpse will power a Dragon Engine for approximately 10 years.
Episode 6 - Zorenthelas explains that the legend among his people is that humanity made a pact with the demons before the earth was destroyed, to defeat the dragons. As part of this pact, the demons gave the humans the ability to use the power of the dragons in their machinery, but in one last attempt to defeat the humans, the dragons scorched the earth making it what it is today. He explains that the earth is dying, and the elves are tasked in finding a way to save it - and the Dragon Engines are the only way to save it.
